Strengthen Forests, Enrich Communities

The Environmental Action Community of Western North Carolina (EAC of WNC) protects the lush canopy that defines our home. We believe that healthy forests create thriving, vibrant communities for every local resident. By defending our natural spaces, we ensure clean air and beautiful views for generations. Our team works tirelessly to connect people with the healing power of the great outdoors.

Enhance Local Health through Outdoor Recreation

We actively promote and advocate for the expansion of regional greenway systems. These paths provide safe, accessible spaces for exercise and scenic commutes. Our team is also expanding our schedule of guided public hikes for all skill levels. We highlight diverse recreation opportunities to help neighbors enjoy our unique mountain landscape. By promoting organic land care, we keep our shared outdoor spaces safe and chemical-free.

Weekly Hikes:

We host guided hikes in Western North Carolina each Thursday! Hikes are approximately 3-5 miles in length. For more information, contact George Shepherd at gsshepherd620@gmail.com

Protect and Expand Our Regional Forests

We are pursuing new partnerships with leading forest protection organizations to safeguard our timberlands. Our goal includes a strong collaboration with the Friends of the Smokies to support nearby national parks. We also organize community tree plantings to restore native species to our local ecosystem. These efforts help expand our forest canopy and provide vital habitats for mountain wildlife. Together, we can ensure our parks remain resilient against the challenges of a changing climate.
