Youth Conservation Corps planning

info102621

Updated: Nov 27, 2023

The Youth Conservation Corps, a new program sponsored by the Haywood Waterways Association (HWA) is comprised of several WNC CAC members. The Conservation Corpos is well on our way to creating an outdoor, hands-on program in which self-directed young people acquire organic farming, ecosystem restoration, and climate crisis mitigation skills and knowledge. In the process young people can deepen or develop their love of Nature.

YCC creator and leader is Jim Geenen, a retired Peace Corps Director who has worked around the world with the Peace Corps and other non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Jim created young people's conservation corps in several countries so we know this kind of program can be highly successful here in western North Carolina.
